+ Just after the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Bush secretly authorized the NSA (National Security Agency) to spy on Americans and others inside the United States claiming that this would generate results in the search for evidence of terrorist activity. One of the serious concerns with the method that Mr. Bush was taking was that this spying was without the court-approved warrants ordinarily required for domestic monitoring, according to government officials.
The Justice Department made a statement that there is a criminal investigation into a secret spying program that was authorized by Mr. Bush. This program is being heavily criticized by civil rights groups and the public alike.

From writer and director Stephen Gaghan, the winner of the Best Screenplay Academy Award for Traffic, comes Syriana, a political thriller that unfolds against the intrigue of the global oil industry. From the players brokering back-room deals in Washington to the men toiling in the oil fields of the Persian Gulf, the film's multiple storylines weave together to illuminate the human consequences of the fierce pursuit of wealth and power. As a career CIA operative (played by George Clooney) begins to uncover the disturbing truth about the work he has devoted his life to, an up-and-coming oil broker (Matt Damon) faces an unimaginable family tragedy and finds redemption in his partnership with an idealistic Gulf prince (Alexander Siddig). A corporate lawyer (Jeffrey Wright) faces a moral dilemma as he finesses the questionable merger of two powerful U.S. oil companies, while across the globe, a disenfranchised Pakistani teenager (Mazhar Munir) falls prey to the recruiting efforts of a charismatic cleric. Each plays their small part in the vast and complex system that powers the industry, unaware of the explosive impact their lives will have upon the world.

+ The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which is best known for the Daytime Emmy Awards, is planning to announce that it has created an award category to recognize video content for computers, cellphones and other hand-hel d devices, like the video iPod and PlayStation Portable with a ceremonial measure for creative innovation.

+ Macroeconomics
A paper published in the April issue of Small Business Economics debates the effect of entreprenuership in third-world countries and developing nations. Essentially what was argued was the effect that start-up business had at the national level, which this paper argued was a miniscule effect. The reasons for this th esis was that in developing nations a strong industry base is required, and that small business are ineffective in establishing such a base. Now, this issue is held in contention, and by no means is definitive or absolute. Mystery Channel wonders if our collective perspective in judging such affairs is tainted or conditional at best. Altough could be true or contains great truth, our view is that such beliefs are backed with overwhelming political and business interests, so such theori es can easily take shape around such interests (whether or not intentionally).
