| Mapping the world for free: Google Earth |
Google has decided to make online, draggable maps and it seems to have caused quite a stir. Here are some reactions:

Issues with the technology:
Indian President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has expressed a concern over Google maps due to the fact that it could aid terrorists by providing satellite photos of potential targets due to the high resolution of these images.
Governments such as South Korea and Thailand have also expressed such concerns.
In defense:
A spokewoman for Google, stated that the mapping software uses information that is available already from public sources. In addition, the images are not shown in real time--they tend to be about one to two years old. Google states as well that they work closely with governments all over the world, and they would be happy to work with any government's concerns directly.
Commercial reactions:
Google's exquisite mapping program has caused caused a ripple effect with other internet service providers--causing MSN to prematurely launch one of their own. Of course the commercial need of hitting the market early is vital.
